Magazine Design Principles

GE Energy is a world leader in both energy delivery technologies and power generation supply. GE Energy currently produces six separate customer magazines around the world that provide current industry insights and findings.

Collaborating with strategic partner Captain Brands (formerly Ivelich Stone), we conducted an extensive audit of GE Energy’s current publication materials, identifying critical areas of similarity and divergence between the various magazines and how they compare with the broader landscape of magazine design today. Informed by those findings, we developed the GE Energy Magazine Design Principles document with multiple design samples as a tool to help guide the individual magazines to adopt distinct, but unified visual styles.

Our aim was to provide clear guidance so that the publications would hold together as a family, while also allowing the freedom to be uniquely expressive in their individual needs. To achieve this goal, we designed over three dozen exhibits that illustrate the various aspects of magazine design. The resulting document provides a roadmap for publications to create the strongest possible expression of the GE brand, within a clear yet flexible structure.
